The Anambra State Police Command has commenced the enforcement of regulations against the use of unregistered vehicles and the concealment, defacement, alteration, or obstruction of vehicle registration number plates across the state.
The development follows directives issued by the Inspector-General of Police, , amid growing concerns over the increasing number of unregistered vehicles and deliberate concealment of number plates, a trend authorities say hampers crime detection, intelligence gathering, and public safety efforts.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, urged vehicle owners and users to ensure that their vehicles are properly registered and that registration number plates remain visible at all times.
According to the Command, any act of covering, bending, defacing, removing, altering, or using unauthorized number plates constitutes a violation of the law and will attract appropriate sanctions.
The Commissioner of Police, , said the enforcement exercise is designed to strengthen security architecture in the state, enhance intelligence gathering, and facilitate the prompt identification of vehicles linked to criminal activities.
He called on motorists to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by complying with all vehicle registration requirements and refraining from actions that could conceal the identity of their vehicles.
The Command also assured residents that officers deployed for the operation have been directed to carry out their duties professionally, courteously, and in accordance with the law.
