Anambra Police Nab 3 Women Over Child Trafficking

The Anambra State Police Command has recorded another major breakthrough in its fight against child trafficking with the arrest of three female suspects in Onitsha.

 

According to Tochukwu Ikenga, Force Public Relations Officer,Police operatives attached to Awada Divisional Headquarters arrested Florence Nnakuzie, 45, Hannah Ugah, 52, and Chinasa Daniel, 27, on the evening of July 11, 2026, at a motor park in Onitsha.

 

According to preliminary findings, Chinasa Daniel allegedly brought in two children on separate occasions between June and December 2025. A two-week-old baby and a four-year-old child were handed over to Hannah Ugah.

Ikenga stated that a four-year-old was later transferred to Florence Nnakuzie and allegedly sold for ₦2,000,000.

 

The two-week-old baby was allegedly sold to another woman who is currently at large.

 

Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, described child trafficking as “a grave violation of human rights and a crime against humanity.” He has directed that the case be transferred immediately to the State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Awka for discreet investigation.

 

The CP also ordered operatives to intensify the manhunt for other members of the syndicate and to begin coordinated operations to locate, rescue, and reunite the trafficked children with their biological families.

 

The Command thanked members of the public for the timely information that led to the arrests and urged residents to keep providing credible intelligence.
