National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) in Anambra state has warned employers of corps members against shielding corps members working under them to abscond from the places of primary assignments.

State Coordinator, Pauline Ojisua gave the warning on Tuesday in Awka during the 2026 NYSC/Corps Employers’ Workshop while responding to a question from one of the participants on ghost corps members

The workshop themed, “Fine-tuning Stakeholders’ Collaboration to Enhance Corps Members’ Welfare and Workplace Experience,” was jointly organised by NYSC South East Area Office I, Enugu and the NYSC Anambra State Secretariat.

Ojisua described as serious offence connivance with corps members and employers to abscond from work, saying such acts attract severe penalties.

She said, “I’m happy one of us is reporting us. A lot of our corps employers allow corps members, using your words to ghost while serving. That word is alien to NYSC.

“When they discuss “ghosting” with you, you don’t report to us. And by month end, they submit their clearance and you certify them to have worked.

“There’s no way NYSC will know, we’re neither magicians nor native doctors. It is corps employers and members who encourage this anomaly that know.

“If I get a report that any corps employer is aligning with corps members to “ghost”, I’ll blacklist such employer. I’ve already done that with some employers and some changed.

“Federal government is not like any charitable organization that shares money. The money they’re being paid is for a job well done and not philanthropy.”

Corroborating, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth Development, Ifeatu Emodi warned corps employers of the dangers inherent in connivance with ghost corps members.

“There’s also the risk element to the matter. What if anything happens to the ghost corps members, the corps employers will be held liable. If the corps leaves without approval, the liability is on you,” he warned.

Also speaking, Deputy Director, Community Development, Mr Chukwu Paul Uro who chaired the occasion warned that “NYSC will catch up on any employer that issues clearance letter to corps members at the end of the month even when they didn’t turn up to work.”
