The Management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital (COOUTH), Amaku, Awka, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the immediate past Provost of the College, the late Professor Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ojiyi, a distinguished Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
According to a statement issued by the Public Relations Office of COOUTH, Amaku, Awka, the hospital’s Management, led by the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, on Thursday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Professor at his residence in Enugu.
The delegation visited to commiserate with his wife, Barr. Mrs. Chikaodinaka Happiness Ojiyi, and the entire Ojiyi family over the irreparable loss of the renowned clinician, scholar, and administrator.
During the visit, the delegation conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the Management, staff, and the entire COOUTH community, describing the late Professor Ojiyi as an exceptional clinician, accomplished academic, inspiring mentor, and visionary administrator whose immense contributions to medicine, medical education, healthcare service delivery, and humanity will remain indelible.
Speaking during the condolence visit, the Chief Medical Director, Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, described the passing of Prof. Ojiyi as a monumental loss, not only to COOUTH but also to the medical profession, academia, and the nation at large.
She noted that his commitment to excellence, professionalism, and the training of future generations of medical practitioners earned him widespread respect and admiration within and beyond the institution.
Dr. Umeakuewulu further recalled that the hospital stood firmly with Prof. Ojiyi throughout his period of illness.
She stated that the Management visited him during his admission at the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital (UNTH), Enugu, where prayers were offered and financial support was provided as a demonstration of the institution’s solidarity, compassion, and commitment to the welfare of its own.
She added that the late Professor’s legacy of dedicated service, integrity, and selfless commitment to patient care and medical education would continue to inspire generations of healthcare professionals, stressing that his contributions to the growth and development of COOUTH and the medical community would never be forgotten.
Responding on behalf of the family, Barr. Mrs. Chikaodinaka Happiness Ojiyi expressed profound appreciation to Dr. Umeakuewulu, the Management, and staff of COOUTH for their unwavering love, compassion, prayers, financial assistance, and steadfast support throughout her husband’s illness and following his passing.
She thanked the Management for honouring the memory of the late Professor through the condolence visit, describing the gesture as deeply comforting and reassuring to the family during this difficult period.
She prayed that God would continue to strengthen, protect, and bless the Chief Medical Director and her Management team as they remain committed to advancing quality healthcare delivery and medical excellence.
The Management and staff of COOUTH reaffirmed their prayers for the peaceful repose of the soul of Professor Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Ojiyi and prayed that Almighty God would grant his family, friends, colleagues, and all who mourn him the divine comfort, strength, and fortitude to bear the immense loss.
