Anambra state government has disclosed plans to carry out integrity tests of students’ hostels in schools across the state to ensure the safety of students at all times.

Value Reformation, Law Mefor who disclosed this on Tuesday said the plan was part of the decisions reached during the 14th session of the State Executive Council (ANSEC) at Light House, Awka.
He said the Council also decided to upgrade the Material Testing Lab in the state, as well as strengthen the law establishing it to ensure reliable integrity tests at all times.
He said, “Council also decided to carry out integrity tests of students’ hostels in schools around the state to ensure the safety of students at all times.
“The Material Testing Lab in the state is to be upgraded, and the law establishing it is to be strengthened to ensure reliable integrity tests at all times.
“Council also resolved to streamline the state law enforcement groups with the aim to eliminate function overlap and proliferation. This will also enhance their functionality, reduce conflicts, and improve accountability to the citizens.
Mefor further revealed Council’s resolve to repossess and repurpose all occupied government lands in the state.
He said the decision followed reports of widespread encroachments on government lands, as well as the growing need for land for government projects.
“Those illegally occupying government lands are advised to vacate them, as there may be no further notice before government crackdown and repossession.
On the ‘Onwa Dezemba’ programme introduced last December by the State Government, the Commissioner announced that its second edition will hold in December 2026.
According to him, many of the events that marked the 2025 edition will feature, alongside documentaries of how Anambra communities celebrate yuletide.
“The government is determined to harness and institutionalise yuletide, as it is an important period for Ndi Anambra to connect with people at home and participate in various cultural and social activities.
Other issues raised during the meeting, according to the Commissioner was the 2026 Independence Day celebration, with discussion centered on its history and strategic importance to the nation’s life.
According to him, the Council called on people of the state to brace up for the celebration on Thursday, October 1, 2026, with the State Government at Ekwueme Square.
“The Anambra Mixed-Use Industrial City (AMIC) is poised to launch in earnest, with the government actively inviting potential investors to engage in discussions, emphasising essential enablers such as access roads, electricity, water supply, and security.
“The Council also was informed that Uga Boys Smart Boarding Secondary School was still admitting.
“However, only prospective boarding students need to apply, as spots for day students have been overshot already. The repurposed secondary school now offers both smart school and boarding experience,” he added
