Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) has received full accreditation from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for its Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme. The result has also raised the medical school’s admission quota from 100 to 300 students.
The accreditation follows a recent MDCN exercise at the university. It confirms the council’s full accreditation of the MBBS programme and records a new admission quota for the medical school.
The revised figure is the main practical outcome for prospective medical students and the university community. The announcement places the new quota alongside the full accreditation decision, giving readers a clear account of what has changed at the medical school.
The MBBS programme was therefore reviewed through re-accreditation, while the Dental programme was considered through accreditation. The update links the conclusion of these exercises with the full accreditation granted to MBBS and the revised medical school quota.
Reacting to the accreditation result and quota increase, the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Prof. Ugochukwu Bond Stanley Anyaehie, expressed gratitude to God.
Prof. Anyaehie said, “I can’t thank God enough, His mercy and grace are my only strength.”
The university community has been congratulated on the achievement. The announcement establishes four direct facts, full MDCN accreditation for the UNIZIK MBBS programme, an increase in the medical school admission quota from 100 to 300 students, the completion of MBBS re-accreditation and the completion of Dental programme accreditation.
