Wednesday, October 6th, would have marked the 54th birthday of business mogul, philanthropist and devout servant of God, Mr. Lucky Chinedu Godwin Adimike, but he was gruesomely murdered in his Abuja residence.
Though silenced in a painful and shocking manner, the memory and legacies of Adimike have continued to live on in the hearts of his family, the Church, and the numerous beneficiaries of his uncommon generosity.
Until his death, the late Adimike epitomized true Christianity. To him, wealth was meaningless unless it was deployed in the service of God and humanity – a philosophy he lived by till his last breath.
He was a well-known benefactor of the Church and was credited with sponsoring several Church projects without seeking public attention. He was a major pillar and benefactor of Faithspiration Initiative, a charity organisation founded by his younger brother, Rev. Fr. Dr. George Adimike.
A committed benefactor of priestly formation, he was a generous supporter of Blessed Tansi Major Seminary, Onitsha, and All Hallows Seminary, Onitsha, where he trained seminarians and contributed to the formation of future priests.
In his home town, Awka-Etiti, his footprints remain indelible. He built the Father’s House at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Awka-Etiti, constructed the Infant Jesus Grotto in the same parish, and revived the Block Rosary Crusade and Marian devotion, rekindling the faith of many families. He also renovated the Awka-Etiti Town Hall and sustained regular palliatives to communities.
Beyond the Church, his philanthropy touched every facet of human need. He offered scholarships to indigent children, empowered several hundreds of youths and adults with seed capital and business support, offered financial empowerment to countless families, and supported hundreds of families who had lost hope of educating their wards.
The late business mogul had a special passion for women and children. He was reputed for routinely offsetting hospital bills and paying in full for all women who delivered at Fatima Hospital, Awka-Etiti, including those who delivered through Caesarean section, as well as paying antenatal bills for pregnant women.
Friends and associates described him as a business mogul with a humble soul – a man who created wealth but was never possessed by it, a bridge to the poor, a father to the fatherless, and a true Christian in word and deed.
As family, friends and associates mark his posthumous 54th birthday, they said they are not mourning as those without hope, but celebrating a life well spent and a legacy that will endure for generations.
“Though you were murdered, your goodness was never murdered. Though you are gone, your charity lives on,” one of the tributes read.
May the gentle soul of Mr. Lucky Chinedu Godwin Adimike continue to rest in the bosom of the Lord.
Adieu, Lucky!
