Labour Party Senatorial Candidate for Anambra Central, Ven. Tochukwu Ikezue has appealed to archbishops, bishops, pastors, general overseers and other Christian leaders to mobilise their congregations to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and participate fully in the 2027 general elections.
He stressed that the Church should not remain silent when the nation’s future was at stake.
Ikezue also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to engage independent local and international Information and Communication Technology (ICT) auditors to examine its database and voter register ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ikezue who was reacting over alleged artificial intelligence (AI) manipulation of INEC’s database and voter records, insisted that the electoral commission should not be allowed to audit its own systems.
He insisted that INEC must not be left to audit itself, urging the commission to engage independent experts to thoroughly examine, clean and certify its systems, servers and voter register before the elections.
“Transparency is not a favour; it is a duty. If INEC has nothing to hide, let independent experts open the system. Nigeria cannot go into 2027 with a compromised database,” he stated.
The LP candidate also invoked the biblical assurance in Matthew 16:18 that “the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church,” urging Christians across the country not to be intimidated or withdraw from active participation in the nation’s political process.
He called on Christians to support candidates they considered God-fearing across political parties, while exercising wisdom and courage during the electioneering period.
Ikezue further advised voters not to reject material gifts offered by politicians during campaigns but to exercise their freedom at the ballot box by voting according to their conscience.
“Do not fail to collect all their gifts. Collect the cash, the cars, the sewing machines, the freezers, the motorcycles, the tricycles, the buses and all they bring. It is our commonwealth they stole.
“But when you get to the ballot, vote your conscience. Vote God-fearing vessels. Your vote is your covenant with God, not for sale,” he said.
He expressed optimism that Nigeria would experience positive transformation within the lifetime of the present generation, adding that people of integrity and capacity had emerged to serve the country.
“Citizens must however take responsibility for determining their political future through active participation, protection of their votes and support for candidates of their choice.
“God has raised men and women of integrity, of capacity, of fear of God, for this season. But God will not vote for us. We must be ready to support them, defend our votes, and vote them into power. 2027 is not just an election, it is a spiritual assignment,” he added.
