Flavour N'Abania: A Musician in His own Class

So Flavour is starring Regina Daniels in his music video, Nwunye Odogwu… the same way he starred Mercy Eke amongst other famous celebrities in most of his singles. The thing is the man called Flavour is a complete Igbo man.

Growing up, I had a mindset about the average Igbo man that hasn’t changed—should an Igbo man push a wheelbarrow to ask you out for a connection, don’t decline him on the basis of his current level. These guys dey get potentials. An average Igbo is always visionary, resourceful and calculative. Before he begins to push a wheelbarrow, there is a goal. They don’t do things for the fun of it. These guys are always goal-oriented.

Back to Flavour—he brought that calculative nature into music. He chose a niche where he stands alone. Name one musician in Naija who does the kind of music Flavour does in case I’m wrong. But even if there are others in his niche, I can bet that he rules that niche. His kinds of songs are always to hail the men on top. People wey hold ground. So when Otedola get event and he dey reason song wey go bustt him brain, he doesn’t think of “I’m unavailable”, leave that to two exes who don’t want to keep in touch, they can be unavailable for each other. He doesn’t think of “Baby whine am for me…” leave that to clubbers, he thinks of “Agba Baller”, he thinks of “The Emperors, the conqueror, and the lions” that will be on the ground for him, and you know the caliber of people that will attend his occasion. You know how they will feel when a dignitary walks in and he sees Flavour announcing his presence with such a song.

Flavor sings for a certain class of people. And they pay him big-big things. You know what I mean. The one we stream na jara for him.

The second strategic move he makes is using stars with star power and less controversy. There is controversy oh, but he uses those with healthy controversy. Those whose lovers are more than their haterz, he uses them for his music videos and Gees, you may not want to watch Nwunye Odogwu’s music video on a normal day, but just to see how Regina Daniels body the character, you will watch and as you dey watch, big-big things follow Flavour Nabania.
