The Anambra State Police Command has arrested an alleged serving member of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and two other suspects over alleged involvement in armed robbery and cultism in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
The suspects have been identified as Francis Chukwuka Anene (male, 46), Emmanuel Obi (male, 29), and Okoye Chinonso (male, 35), the latter described as a serving member of a security agency.
Items recovered from the suspects include two locally made Beretta pistols, four rounds of live 9mm ammunition, and a suspected fake security agency identity card.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the Command’s spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Anambra State Police Command has continued to record significant operational successes in its sustained efforts to enhance safety and security across the state.
He cited the recent arrest of three suspected armed robbers and cultists, as well as the recovery of arms, ammunition, and a stolen petrol tanker in separate operations.
According to him, police operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, on March 21, 2026, at about 1:46 p.m., acted on credible intelligence to storm a suspected criminal hideout in Ogidi, Idemili North Local Government Area.
Ikenga stated that preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are members of a criminal syndicate allegedly involved in armed robbery, kidnapping, and terrorizing residents of Ogidi and its environs.
He added that the suspects are also being investigated for possible involvement in the gruesome murder of the late President-General of Ogidi.
In a separate development, police personnel attached to the Ozubulu Police Division, in the early hours of March 17, 2026, recovered a suspected stolen white trailer tanker abandoned along the Onitsha–Owerri Expressway.
According to the spokesman, the vehicle was found without a registration number, with the key still in the ignition, and was reportedly abandoned by an unidentified individual.
He said the Command has commenced efforts to trace the owner of the tanker and unravel the circumstances surrounding its abandonment, as investigations continue into both incidents.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured Ndi Anambra of the Command’s commitment to sustaining safety and security. He urged members of the public to continue supporting the police with timely and credible information.
