The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, has offered automatic employment to no fewer than 37 first-class graduates of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University during its 16th convocation ceremony, on Saturday, at the University’s main campus, Igbariam, Anambra East Local Government Area, Anambra State, Southeast, Nigeria. Governor Charles Soludo, a first-class graduate of Economics from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, in Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, further made a personal donation of the sum of four million Naira to the overall best graduating student, Ume, Augustus Somtochukwu, of the Economics Department of the University, who scored 4.85 out of 5.0 cumulative grade point aggregate. In addition, the Governor gave an automatic scholarship for postgraduate studies to all 37 first-class graduates of the university at the 16th convocation ceremony of the university, a remarkable gesture that stands as the high point of the week-long activities commemorating the university’s founder’s day and the 16th convocation ceremony.

Within the convocation week, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University played host to two European Ambassadors: the European Union Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Goutier Mignot, who delivered a lecture on climate action, and the Polish Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Michal Cygan, who delivered a lecture on shared prosperity. The lectures reflect the three Vs of Values, Viability, and Visibility of the University Vice Chancellor, Professor Kate Omenugha. Both Ambassadors were received by the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo, at the Government House of Anambra State, otherwise called The Light House, in Awka, the State capital.

The Governor of Anambra State, within the convocation week, also appointed His Lordship, Bishop Matthew Kukah, a popular Nigerian cleric and the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto State, in North-West, Nigeria, as the new Chancellor of the University. On Saturday, the governor received him and later joined to decorate him as the University’s Chancellor.

Meanwhile, Governor Soludo dropped Professor Chidi Odinkalu, a human rights lawyer and popular critic on social media, as the University’s Pro-Chancellor and picked Professor Peter Onwualu as the University’s new Pro-Chancellor. These changes signal a switch that properly launches the Anambra State-owned Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University as a strategic Nigerian institution of learning with a global perspective.
