St. John Vianney Science College, Ukwulu, has added another major milestone to its growing list of achievements after emerging Best Private School of the Year at the fifth edition of the prestigious Anambra Man of the Year (AMTY) Awards, held on Saturday, July 19, at the Stanel Dome, Awka. The award, widely regarded as one of the highest honours in Anambra State and across the South East, recognizes institutions and individuals whose work has made outstanding contributions to society.
Over the past few years, the school has built a remarkable reputation for producing students who consistently compete and excel on national and international stages. In 2025, the school won the National Head Girls Competition in Lagos, where its Head Girl was crowned Head Girl of the Year for her outstanding innovation. The school also emerged one of the winners of the Nationwide Inter-Senior Secondary Schools E-Debate Championship held in Abuja in December 2025.
Its international profile rose even further after representing Nigeria at the inaugural UK–Nigeria Debate Championship, where it defeated top schools from Nigeria and the United Kingdom to emerge overall champions. Building on that success, two students from the school were selected to represent Nigeria at the World Schools Debating Championships in Kenya this year. Earlier, the school also made history by winning the inaugural National Girls in ICT Competition, reinforcing its growing reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading centres of academic and leadership excellence.
These achievements have transformed the school, owned by Father Emmanuel Obimma (Ebube Muonso) into one of the country’s fastest-rising secondary schools, attracting attention from education stakeholders within and outside Nigeria. Receiving the award on behalf of the school, the School Manager, Rev. Gerald Ogbulikpe, dedicated the recognition to the vision of the proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, the commitment of the school’s staff, and the resilience of its students.
“This honour belongs to everyone who has contributed to building this great institution,” he said. “Our proprietor, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obimma, laid a bold vision of raising young people who will excel academically, lead with integrity, and compete confidently anywhere in the world. Every teacher, every member of staff, every parent, and every student has contributed to making that vision a reality. We receive this award with gratitude, and we see it as a call to aim even higher.”
He added that the school would continue investing in academic excellence, leadership development, innovation, technology, public speaking, entrepreneurship, and character formation so that its students remain prepared for the opportunities and challenges of a rapidly changing world.
Speaking during the ceremony, the organisers described this year’s awardees as individuals and institutions whose achievements continue to project Anambra State positively while inspiring excellence across different sectors.
The fifth edition of the AMTY Awards celebrated outstanding contributions in public service, business, education, entertainment, and philanthropy. Among the notable recipients were Archbishop Valerian Okeke, who received the Person of the Decade Award, Mrs Amaka Onwughalu, Chairman of Fidelity Bank Plc, who was honoured as Woman of the Year, and celebrated actor Ken Erics Ugo, who received the Artiste of the Year Award, among several other distinguished personalities.
