Air Peace has taken delivery of another Embraer 190 aircraft, bringing its Embraer fleet to 18 and marking its eighth aircraft acquisition in 2026 as the airline intensifies efforts to expand its domestic, regional and international operations.
The 96-seat aircraft arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Terminal 2, Lagos, at about 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, and was flown into Lagos by Captain Mrs Ibironke Rotimi-Olajide.
The aircraft has been named after Mrs Eka Sunmonu, wife of Mutiu Sunmonu, former Managing Director of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). The naming represents the first time Air Peace has named an aircraft after someone outside the Onyema family.
The airline’s Embraer fleet includes the manufacturer’s latest E2 series, for which Air Peace is the launch customer in Africa.
In addition to its Embraer aircraft, the carrier has acquired five Boeing 737-800 aircraft this year, further strengthening its fleet expansion programme.
Air Peace spokesperson, Osifo-Whiskey Efe, said the latest acquisition demonstrated the airline’s commitment to building a versatile fleet capable of supporting its growth ambitions.
“The arrival of another Embraer 190 is an important milestone in our strategic fleet expansion programme. We are deliberately building a diverse and versatile fleet that gives us the operational flexibility required to strengthen our network, improve schedule resilience and provide greater connectivity across the markets we serve,” he said.
Efe added that the airline’s growing fleet would provide the capacity needed to sustain its long-term expansion plans.
“With 18 Embraer aircraft now in our fleet, alongside our growing Boeing portfolio, we are building capacity for the long term. Every fleet decision is tied to our broader expansion strategy and our commitment to deploying the right aircraft across our domestic, regional and international network,” he said.
The newly delivered aircraft has 12 Business Class seats and 84 Economy Class seats. Its Business Class cabin features a 1-2 configuration, while Economy Class adopts a 2-2 arrangement, eliminating the middle seat.
Other passenger amenities include generous legroom, a spacious cabin and in-seat power sockets.
The acquisition reflects Air Peace’s continued investment in fleet development as it seeks to improve connectivity within Nigeria, deepen its presence across Africa and support its expanding international operations.
The airline said its strategy remained focused on acquiring suitable aircraft, developing its network and increasing operational capacity to meet evolving market demands.
