As the Labour Party continues to count its ‘wins’ in the just concluded general elections, the emergence of the party and its surprising showing have proven to be a dent on the luck some ranking legislators from Anambra state.

Results the recently concluded national assembly polls showed that at least 3 ranking legislators at the Senate and the House of Representatives have been usurped by candidates of Labour Party and as such will not be part of the 10th National Assembly. Among these loosers, some of the major casualties are:

Ekwunife

Senator Uche Ekwunife : A very ranking senator who has spent more than a decade at the national assembly with stints at the two chambers. She’s considered one of the best legislators in terms of the projects she has attracted to her constituency

Unfortunately, Ekwunife failed her re-election attempt as her longtime political nemesis, Senator Victor Umeh riding on the labour Party wave trounced her to win the senatorial seat for Anambra central zone.

The battle between the duo for the Anambra Central Senatorial seat dated back to 2015 when Ekwunife had earlier won the election but her victory was annulled by the court because she had switched parties.

Umeh won the bye-election as Ekwunife failed to secure her then party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)’s support to re-contest, but the latter, running under the PDP, torpedoed the former in the 2019 election.

For Oduah, her third-term dream in the senate was cut short by Tony Nwoye, who emerged victorious in a contest that also had the immediate former First Lady of the state, Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano running on the platform of APGA.

Linda Ikpeazu

In the House of Representatives,Hon Linda Ikpeazu a well known and well performed Legislator lost to Hon Emeka Idu who was a former member of the Anambra state House of Assembly. Idu had previously contested for House of representatives seat to represent Onitsha North and South federal Constituency before he was removed by the court before inauguration as his major opponent Linda Ikpeazu was sworn in.
