ANAMBRA’S new malaria control and eradication programme has been rated as the best model in the country by the federal government, ANAMBRA PEOPLE reports.

Recommending the model for other states in Awka during a training workshop for those recruited by the state to monitor the programme, a representative of National Malaria Elimination Programme (NMEP) in Federal Ministry Health, Abuja, Dr. Boniface Pupshep said the new anti-malaria programme will deliver its mandate.

According to Pupshep, the new programme is the first to distribute about four million insecticide treated mosquitoes nets to households, thereby bringing more people into its catchment more than any state has achieved in similar programmes.

Pupshep also called on other states in Nigeria to emulate the Anambra model in order to expedite federal government’ malaria prevention effort.

Also speaking, Programme Manager of Anambra State Malaria Elimination Programme, Nonso Ndibe said importance attached to future distribution of the insecticide treated nets explains why training is being organised for the monitoring team in order to equip them with requisite skills and knowledge relating to making effective use of the kits.

It will be recalled that a 3.8 million insecticide treated nets were distributed to households in the state as a means to roll back malaria under government’s operation zero malaria programme.
