~Present Meriterous Awards of Excellency to final winner’s of the competition
The Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Awka and Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB) in collaboration with Dr Chinedu Anthony Umeadi Foundation have concluded the 4th Edition of Science Quiz Award Ceremony for Secondary Schools in Anambra with Arinze Chiamaka Esther of Maria Regina school Nnewi and Eze Chinedu Daniel of Dennis Memorial Grammar school, Onitsha emerging as the best overall in the competition.
The event which took place Yesterday Wednesday July 5th 2023 at the Dora Akunyili Women Development centre Awka had in attendance, representatives of Junior and Senior Secondary schools in Anambra with their students, government functionaries, as well as academic gurus in the state.
Speaking in a welcome address, Chairman of the Occassion, the Vice Chancellor,Nnamdi Azikiwe University,Awka, Prof Charles Okechukwu Esimone said that what our students represent for us today is the future we are beholding. “if you want to talk about tomorrow, we can not play with you, you represent the lofty idea, worthy status we aspire as a state, establishing them to be productive members of the society in the near future.So we have to invest in you and so we keep thanking Dr Umeadi for instituting this quiz competition.
He noted that when you nurture the mind at a young age it tends to produce productive and effective people who will in turn enhance development. This is the magic behind developed countries where they use science and technology to improve the students.
Prof Esimone however, urged the students, teachers, and principals to take charge because to whom much is given much more is expected. “Your award is a stepping stone to better future. We want to hear your name grow and make human endeavours a reality. We want to hear that what you represent today will be made best student in jamb, universities and in any endeavour you find yourself”.
Addressing, Special Guest of Honour, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, his Lordship, Most Rev Paulinus Ezeokafor noted that while students study science and technology in school, they should know that “we are humans created in the image of God, we notice that some of our young boys and girls are not disciplined and so we encourage our parents, teachers to ensure that good morals are imbibed in the young ones. I want you to put God in your life which will help you to overcome human challenges and also you get the zeal to study”.
Earlier ,Founder, Dr Chinedu Umeadi foundation and Sponsor of the Competition , High Chief Dr Chinedu Umeadi, said today is a great day, a day to celebrate intelligent students in Anambra.
Dr Umeadi noted that this is the 4th edition of the quiz competition and has hoped to support the educational foundations of our young ones. He called on his Lordship, Bishop Ezeokafor to henceforth appoint 5 students and the Vice Chancellor of Unizilk 2 students who will benefit from educational scholarship.
Member Representing Njikoka 11 constituency at the State House of Assembly and Deputy majority leader, Hon Dr Jude Akpua applauded the sponsor, directors of educational agencies present, and prayed that God will continue to bless them. He noted that irrespective of his constituency, Dr Chinedu Umeadi has taken the lead to organise this wonderful event in the whole Anambra. Adding that the quiz competition is inline with Governor Soludo Administration policy on education and whe assured him that the Njikoka Local Government will always assist in whatever ways needed to pilot the affairs of the foundation.
Director Science and Technology PPSSC, Awka, Mr Anereobi Ephraim Jekwu noted that Dr Umeadi’s dynamic and visionary ideas have completely changed the face of Education in the state. He thanked the foundation for creative and charismatic method of using an advance program software, Computer Based Test (CBT) for this year’s competition which helps to elevate the students intelligent quotient in ICT globally.
State winners, (Junior category) 6th position- Orjiakor Chibuzo Anthony of St Charles College, Onitsha, followed by the 5th position-Nnamani Favour Chisom of SKGSS, Umudioka,.4th position- Madukasi Oluebube Victory of BUMSEM, Nnewi, Okonkwo Chinazaekpere Stella of MASS Umuoji, while 2nd position- Edochie Esther Chiagozie of QRC Onitsha and the 1st winner Arinze Chiamka Esther of MRMCSS Nnewi( cash price). Theses students were automatically inducted as Member of Ambassador Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Foundation.
State winners (Senior category) includes, 6th position-Adinnu Stanley Sopuluchukwu of CSS-Oraifite, 5th postion-Maduegwuna Chioma Precious, NAU AWKA, 4th position- Ibegunam Chinonso Christian of PMGS, Onitsha, 3rd postion-Nnaemeka MaryJane Amarachi of MASS Umuoji, while the 2nd position-Emmanuel Mmesoma Precious of QRC, Onitsha and Ezejames Chinedu Daniel of DMGS became the overall best winner ( 1st position).
Other awards given under junior category includes, (¡) Best Secondary School m goes to Maria Regina Model Comprehensive Secondary Nnewi, (¡¡) Best Principal – Maria Regina Model Comprehensive Secondary Nnewi, and (¡¡¡) Best Quiz Master – Maria Regina Model Comprehensive Secondary Nnewi.
Senior Category includes (¡) Best School of Best Student goes to DMGS Onitsha, (¡¡) Best Principal of Best Student – DMGS Onitsha and Best Quiz Master – DMGS respectively.
Highlights of the occassion were presentation of the Awards and prizes to state and zonal winners, dance performance by St Johnbosco Secondary School Unubi, welcome song by Capital city Secondary School, Awka. While dignitaries present were, Royal Fr of the Day, HRH Obi, Sir P.M Okeke, (JP, KSJI), Chief Dr Clement and Dr mrs Nduka, Secretary – PPSSC, Awka, Mrs Benedine Anagor, Dr Ngozi Ekwunife, member, Station manager, Unizik 98.5 Fm, Ify Obi, Foundation Director DCUF, Rev Sr Dr, Miriam Rona Onwuadi, Cordinator DCUF, Chief Sir Ikem Onwuadi, Hon. Peter Ozumba , Hon. Mrs Blessing Icheku, Hon. Mrs Christiana Ugochi Enukora , Hon. Tochukwu Obiadi (Apga state youth leader), among others.
