Joint security operatives on Thursday repelled an attack on a checkpoint in Isuofia community, Aguata Local Government Area, and killed two of the attackers.
Isuofia is the hometown of the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo.
In a statement released by the Anambra State Police Command, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said that the Joint Security Team, in the late hours of Thursday, successfully resisted an attack by armed criminals at the security checkpoint in Isuofia.
According to him, during the confrontation, one of the security operatives was fatally wounded, and one of their operational vehicles was set ablaze by the attackers.
He added that, during the ensuing gun battle, the superior firepower of the Joint Security Team forced the criminals to abandon one of their operational vehicles, a Toyota Sienna, before fleeing the scene.
The Command’s spokesperson stated that the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the incident, describing it as a test of the collective resolve of Ndi Anambra to support security forces in dislodging and eliminating criminal elements from the state.
He assured the public that the Command is committed to apprehending those responsible for what he termed an unpatriotic act.
Meanwhile, calm has been restored in the area, and security has been reinforced, with more armed operatives currently combing nearby bushes in search of the fleeing suspects.
