The Anambra State Police Command has announced plans to commence a comprehensive training and reorientation programme for vigilante operatives across the state, in a bid to enhance grassroots security operations and deepen collaboration between community-based security outfits and formal law enforcement agencies.

According to a press statement issued on Wednesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Command began with the documentation and health screening of vigilante operatives in preparation for the full-scale training exercise.

The initiative, according to the statement, is aimed at equipping vigilante personnel with standard security protocols, human rights principles, and community policing strategies, to ensure they operate in synergy with the Nigeria Police Force and other sister security agencies for the overall safety and peace of Anambra State.

The Command further disclosed that the training modules would include critical areas such as ethics and professionalism, synergy and inter-agency cooperation, crime scene management, adherence to rule of law, handling of exhibits, and other key aspects of modern security operations.

As part of its broader goals, the Police said the ongoing documentation and health screening will help strengthen the organizational structure of vigilante outfits, promote accountability, and standardize their operations across the state.

“This effort demonstrates the Police Command and the State Government’s collaborative commitment to community security and safety,” the statement concluded.

This reporter, Izunna Okafor, gathered that this latest initiative adds to the ongoing security reforms being implemented under the administration of CP Ikioye Orutugu, in line with the Solution Security Architecture of Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, aimed at making Anambra a safe, livable and prosperous homeland.
