The Dennis Memorial Grammar School (DMGS) Old Boys Association in Onitsha, Anambra state is successfully getting close to raising a whooping $ 2.5 million dollars for its endowment fund. The DMGS Endowment Fund (DEF) was established by the school’s old boys to provide additional financial support for both short-term and long-term needs of the of the school.

The initial target was to raise $1 Millon Dollars but with the new executive ,the target has been upgraded to $2.5 million dollars.

The endowment has a ten-year vesting period, with the goal of reaching full funding by December 31, 2025. Once fully funded, the investment income generated will be used to support academic programs and physical infrastructure development at DMGS.

The Fund is managed by a Board of Trustees and expected to be fully funded before the centenary of the institution coming up November, 2025.

Prof Beze Adogu, the Chair of the DMGS Endowment Fund, expressed his gratitude and admiration for the support received thus far. In a message to the old boys of DMGS, he emphasized the value of their contributions, whether through time, talent, or monetary donations. He assured them that their generosity is greatly appreciated and never taken for granted.

“As of February 20th, 2024, the DMGS endowment fund has accumulated a total of Four Hundred and Eighty Five thousand Dollars($485,000). “

“This substantial sum represents the dedication and hard work of the individuals who went above and beyond to provide support for their alma mater. DMGS holds a special place in the hearts of its alumni, as it served as the catalyst for their personal and professional growth” he said.

Prof Adogu commended all those who participated in the Emma Abara “60 Man Challenge,” a fundraising initiative that generated significant contributions to the endowment fund. He also shared a heartwarming gesture from an anonymous alumnus from the University of Jos, who donated $1000 to support the cause, despite having no personal ties to DMGS.

Prof Adogu assured the alumni that their contributions are safeguarded and would be utilized solely for the benefit of DMGS.

“The funds donated will be directed towards initiatives that advance the mission and vision of the school. The DMGS Endowment Fund remains optimistic that those who have not yet contributed will do so in due course, as they continue to uphold the legacy of Grammar School” Prof Adogu concluded.
