Over 300 patients have received free medical treatment from Fada Pita Charity Tennis Tournament (FPCT), Onitsha, Anambra state.
The free medical outreach was preceded by tennis tournament which was part of activities lined up for the final competition of the 24th edition of FPCT.
The trophy of the competition held at Onitsha People’s Lawn Tennis Club, situated along Onitsha/Owerri road, Onitsha was lifted by Elites Sports Club, Omagba phase 2 while Rojenny Sports Club, Oba clinched the second position.
Oko Sports Club came third in the keenly contested lawn tennis tournament.
Speaking during the event, President, Adinnu, said free medicare was sponsored by the group as part of charity to assist the founder in his service of supporting the less privileged in the society.
He said, “We’re gathered to mark the end the 24th edition of Fada Pita Charity Tennis Tournament which was flagged off on April 25 at Oraifite Sports club.
“Today is the closing day which we started with medical treatment and about 300 patients received free medication.
“Those with low/high blood pressure, eye problem, malaria fever, and others were treated by our medical team free of charge.
“We took care of the bills as part of charity to assist the founder, Very Rev Fr Peter Muojekwu in his evangelical work of rendering help to the less privileged in the society.
“We are eight clubs in Anambra that make up the tournament but plan to extent it to Asaba. We have discussed with Amawbia Sports club and they will join us in next year tournament being the 25th edition.”
Founder, Fr. Muojekwu described the FPCT as one entity with three arms: Fada Pita Charitable Initiative Nigeria which is the mother and the oldest branch. The other two sister branches in the United States are Fada Pita Charitable Organization and Fada Pita Sports Foundation.
“These two bodies in United States work hand in hand to champion the diverse works of Fada Pita Charitable Initiative. Fada Pita Charitable organization champions the course of persons with disabilities and the abandoned kids.
“The Fada Pita Sports Foundation undertakes the work of promoting the youths’ program,” he explained.
Also speaking, Chaplain of FPCT, Very Rev. Fr. Anthony Obele revealed that the tournament would celebrate its silver jubilee next year at Nnewi, its headquarters.
He said, “Sports brings people together irrespective of religious denomination. An Anglican has been the chairman of this FPCT for 10 good years. This is about rendering help and not religion.
“All efforts for government to assist us have proved abortive. So we resolved to carry the cross by ourselves,” he lamented.
On his part, Grand patron of FPCT as well as Rojenny Sports Club, Oba, Chinedu Oruche presented two wheel chairs to the organization for children with disability.
He appreciated the founder of the program, praying God to give for more strength on him, especially ahead of next year’s silver jubilee celebration.
“Everytime I present two wheel chairs to assist the less privileged. It is a work of charity we are doing. I call on all other spirited individuals to emulate us to ensure better lives for these less privileged ones,” he added.
CEO of Bencarmel Global Motor Ltd, Chief Benjamin Ohanuba, who was among the three honoured with the award of ‘Golden Pillar of Charity,’ reassured his preparedness to assist when called upon.
Present at the occasion were Chairman of the occasion, High Chief Innocent Mozie, Nathan Ogbunkwo, (mayor), among others.
Highlights on the occasion were presentation of cash of N150,000 each, food items, wheel chairs, among others to four destitute homes that included RECDOT Ozubulu, Okija leprosy centre and co, Crowder Children home Onitsha and DCC Nnewi (deaf and dumb).
