Peter Obi Donates ₦10 Million to Anglican Church in Anambra

Former Labour Party Presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, has donated ₦10 million to the Anglican Diocese of Aguata to support them in acquisition and expansion of a health facility located in Isulo, Orumba South local government area of Anambra State.

The donation aligns with Obi’s longstanding mantra of prioritizing investments in critical sectors such as health, education, and poverty alleviation as the bedrock for sustainable national development.

During the donation ceremony, Mr. Obi emphasized the pivotal role of healthcare in fostering a productive and thriving society. “Health is key to the development of any nation,” he stated, highlighting that access to quality healthcare is essential for empowering citizens to contribute meaningfully to economic and social progress.

He further noted that a healthy population is better equipped to drive innovation, productivity, and overall national growth, which are central themes in his vision for Nigeria.

Mr. Obi, known for his hands-on approach to philanthropy, personally tour the health facility to assess its current state and identify areas for further support.

“I will revisit the facility before the end of the year to see how we can make it more impactful,” he promised, underscoring his commitment to ensuring that his contributions yield tangible results.

In addition to the donation, Mr. Obi reaffirmed his dedication to promoting health and education across Nigeria.

“I will continue to support initiatives that advance healthcare and education because these are the pillars upon which any progressive nation stands,” he declared.

According to him, empowering citizens through knowledge and well-being is the most effective way to combat poverty and foster sustainable development.

Obi’s philanthropy is not merely financial but is deeply rooted in his philosophy of creating systems that uplift communities and ensure long-term self-reliance.

Mr. Obi’s donation to the Aguata Diocese is part of a broader pattern of contributions to healthcare and education initiatives across Nigeria.

Over the years, he has supported the establishment and rehabilitation of schools, hospitals, and community centers, particularly in underserved areas.

By assisting the Aguata Diocese in ensuring theh acquire the health facility, Obi is not only addressing immediate healthcare needs but also reinforcing his belief that strategic investments in human capital are critical to transforming Nigeria into a prosperous nation.

Receiving the check on behalf of the Anglican Diocese of Aguata , Venerable Dr. Kamtochukwu Obi expressed profound gratitude for the donation, noting that the funds would significantly enhance their capacity towards buying off the facility from the private owners and futher provide quality healthcare services to the local communities in the area.

Venerable Obi, who is the Chairman of the Aguata Diocesan Hospital Board and Archdeacon of Ezira Archdeaconry, expressed deep gratitude for Obi’s continued commitment to projects that uplift humanity and assured him that the Diocese would not only put the facility to optimal use but also ensure that it becomes a centre of excellence for healthcare delivery “for the benefit of humanity and to the greater glory of God.”

Venerable Obi further revealed that the access road to the facility was originally constructed during Mr. Obi’s tenure as Governor, underscoring his long-standing commitment to infrastructural and social development in the region.

He explained that the Diocese plans to transform the Good Hope Specialist Hospital Isulo into a comprehensive health complex. “Our vision is to establish within this facility a School of Nursing, a School of Midwifery, and a School of Health Technology, thereby creating a hub for training future healthcare professionals and meeting the growing medical needs of our communities,” he said.

Accompanying Mr. Peter Obi was Prof. Chinyere Stella Okunna, who described the initiative as a bold and visionary step towards addressing the nation’s healthcare challenges.

Professor Okunna commended both Mr. Obi and the Diocese of Aguata for their dedication to projects that directly impact the lives of ordinary Nigerians, stressing that healthcare is one of the most critical investments any society can make.
